ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Paul Stapleton has developed a real and varied range of skills over his working life. His working life began in the Motor Vehicle Smash Repair industry, in which he was a talented tradesman.
It was about this time he first began to take notice of computers, which became an very interesting hobby. Since then he has held positions as a Poly-tech Technician and Tutor, Insurance Assessor, Vehicle Leasing Fleet Controller and Vehicle Leasing Consultant.
Over the years his computer hobby has evolved to become a deep and insatiable passion for all aspects of computing and ICT. Paul has been very involved in computer clubs, serving as the new users tutor, committee member and past computer club president. It was through this involvement he built on his knowledge about how the computer functioned and what it’s future in the world might be. He utilised his experience in tutoring students to teach others how to use computers to their advantage. At a time when computer skills were thin on the ground, he managed to glean valuable and enduring knowledge about both computer hardware and software.
” I remember in the 1990’s when if I wanted to know something about computers, I had to ask people including University Lecturers and Technicians. My experience was that they didn’t really want to talk to a mere mortal like me. They seemed to lack the skills and patience to explain things in real terms that others understood. From then on I became a translator between people like that and the rest of the population.”
About this time his professional life began to merge with the all consuming hobby. Paul was offered a new role as a Computer Installation and Training Contractor to a large Christchurch retail outlet. Later when the opportunity arose to develop a software package for the international market, Paul undertook Tertiary Training in order to fulfill the contract and achieve the goal.
When the contract ended Paul was left with time to consider the future. He realised his wealth of computer skills and knowledge was now a real and valuable commodity. The decision was made to start business as a Computer Tutor and this grew into his own computer consultancy. Things quickly expanded, computer repairs and parts supply, new and used computer sales, plus web authoring, to the services offered.
His business has grown over the last 16 years to the point where InTouch Computers has hundreds of satisfied business and private customers. He has added the PC Paramedics brand to the stable, which provides a mobile computer repair service.
Now that his hobby has become his work, Paul indulges a huge love of motor sport. He can be seen race tracks around the country taking immense enjoyment in helping others or just spectating. Recently he took back to the road on a motorbike, re-igniting an old love for two wheels which he has enjoyed from a very young age.
“I still have a huge passion for what I do. I love every day doing this. I gain so much enjoyment out of seeing my customers made happy by what I do. Without them I wouldn’t have a role or a business. Some of them have become very close and enduring friends whose advice has been invaluable to my success in business. I value every client and do my best to keep them happy. This passion for, and dedication to what I do ensures clients are happy to give others my name when asked if they know a good computer man. I am proud and humbled by the fact people readily recommend me, as much of my work comes via word of mouth referrals.”
My deep thanks goes out to all of my customers and I hope to be their computer man for a long time to come.
